On the early morning of October 16th 2019 at around 4:00am I woke up in my bedroom at home to find that the light in the bathroom was on. It was not supposed to be on since, as far as I could remember, I had turned it off before going to sleep earlier that night. I never leave it on. My initial thoughts, as I lied in bed looking over my shoulder, was that perhaps someone had gotten into my house and had turned on the light. Read more ⟶
Model Photo Shoot: Carol Chen Poun Joe
After a fairly long time I did a photo shoot again two weeks ago with Carol Chen Poun Joe. It was an interesting experience doing such a photo shoot again after 2 years; I found out afterwards that I forgot about small details and made some stupid mistakes. Read more ⟶
We should all be Part-Time Lovers
On the morning of April 22nd 2018 I woke up with the melody from the song “Part-Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder constantly looping in my mind for no immediately apparent reason. Literally, I opened my eyes and this melody was playing in my mind. Read more ⟶
No Mark Zuckerberg, I don’t need your help
On the morning of March 26th 2018 I got behind my PC with my usual cup of coffee and decided to check my notifications on Facebook. I clicked to open two of them, both in a separate window, and in both windows was presented with a page asking me if I was going through a difficult time, and if I needed help. You can see a screenshot of the page in the above image. This is the first time I ever saw this on Facebook. Read more ⟶
Pay attention!
About two weeks ago I was watching a TEDx presentation by Jordan Peterson titled “Potential.” As I was lying in bed watching on my phone late at night, I suddenly got an incoming call that interrupted the video. It was from my dad. The incoming call notification came on for just a brief moment though — just enough to see that it was a call from my dad — then it went away and the video continued playing. Court rules that Politicians blocking followers on Social Media violates Free Speech
Back in October 2016 I had blogged about my experiences with censorship on Facebook, where I mentioned that the reporting functionalities provided by the social media network were “being abused […] to harass, silence and censor people, and is a serious violation of every individual’s natural right to free speech.” Interestingly a judge in the USA seems to agree in at least one specific instance: Court Rules That Politicians ... Messages from the Universe – Part 3
Continuing where I left off in the previous post in this series, in the months following that post, I experienced what I can only describe as an onslaught of the numbers 3, 6 and 9 in various combinations of 3 digits. It seemed as though the timing in so many events in my life were synchronized according to those numbers. Every time something significant happened I’d look at my phone and the time would be a combination of 3, 6 and 9 (e.g. Read more ⟶
About the voice-over for my website intro
When I started working on the intro for my new website in late 2015 I knew I would eventually want some voice-over to go along with the titles appearing on screen. I had looked online for voice talent on websites like voices.com, and had found a few people that had the type of voice I was looking for. One of them — my first choice — was L. Harvey Gold. Messages from the Universe – Part 2
Not long ago I had published a post here on my blog where I discussed some examples of “coincidences” happening in my life. In this post I want to share another very interesting case concerning the above picture. Ever since the recent price increases I’ve been closely monitoring the power consumption at my house; from time to time I check the electricity meter to record the date and amount. Read more ⟶
Messages from the Universe
I promised in previous blog posts that I would write more about the “strange coincidences” that happen in my life. I’ve already written about some of them, and you can find them here on my blog tagged under “coincidences.” In this post I’m going to write about a number of them that have to do with numerology. The Presidential Portrait; Looking Back
Back in August 2010 I shot the official portrait for the president of Suriname. You can read all about it in a previous blog post titled “Photoshoot: President D. D. Bouterse of Suriname”. I used to be proud of this, but not so much anymore. To be sure, it’s usually an honor for any photographer to be chosen to shoot the official portrait of the president of a country. Read more ⟶
A story about me, a thief and the universe
The universe is a very strange and mysterious place. Sometimes things happen that we can’t explain. Things that go against our understanding of what the universe is and how it works. Things that mainstream science cannot yet explain and indeed even refuses to look at. We call it the “paranormal” — a term we use to label all strange and spooky experiences we have that we can’t find a rational explanation for. Read more ⟶
Code-19
When I published my post about the Cycle of Life a few days ago, I noticed that the date was May 15th, 2015 on the clock on my computer. I thought to myself that that was an interesting date to be publishing such a post, seeing as how I discussed the significance of numbers and the mathematical principles that underlie our universe in that post. The date 5-15-2015 eventually adds up to 1 in numerology (5+1+5+2+0+1+5=19 and 1+9=10 and 1+0=1). Read more ⟶

On the morning of June 23rd, 2013, I had a very strange experience. You could call it a dream, but I’m not sure it was a dream. Right before I woke up at around 11am that Sunday morning, a blue screen presented itself before me. My whole field of vision was filled with a solid blue color, no matter where I looked. It was as if I was standing inside a blue sphere. There were no walls and no corners. Read more ⟶
Aerial Photography for JP Knight
Back in October 2013 I had the opportunity to do a very exciting assignment for UK based river transport company JP Knight. They wanted images of their operations here in Suriname, and from the beginning it was clear that we’d have to split the work in two assignments; one involving aerial photography and another for industrial type of images taken on the ground. The Sign
So there’s this girl that I got to know a while ago. I started talking to her online, found out she had a very nice personality, and it got to a point where I wanted to meet her to see what she’s really like in person. One day I invited her to come along on one of my personal photowalks so that we could meet in person, walk around and chat a bit. Read more ⟶
When evening comes
I was standing at the waterfront in Paramaribo at dusk about to take this picture, when a homeless guy walked up to me to ask me for some money. He stood next to me while I continued to look at the sky and waited for the light to get more interesting. At the same time I listened to him while he explained that he was really hungry, hadn’t eaten for a while and would really love to buy himself a good meal. Read more ⟶
Thoughts on the Canon EOS 1DX
Could 2012 be the year where Canon makes a serious comeback in the professional photography industry? Well, from the looks of it, it’s going to get very exciting for photographers using Canon equipment. For the last 4 years I’ve been bashing Canon here on my blog for their poor quality control, poor product releases (50D, 5D Mark II, 7D, 60D) and questionable business practices (5D Mark II, 50mm f/1.2L).
