So there’s this girl that I got to know a while ago. I started talking to her online, found out she had a very nice personality, and it got to a point where I wanted to meet her to see what she’s really like in person. One day I invited her to come along on one of my personal photowalks so that we could meet in person, walk around and chat a bit. She agreed and we decided that we’d do it the following week on a Wednesday in the afternoon at 5 ‘o clock. However at that time we were in the rainy season, so in the days leading up to our meeting the weather was very bad. It literally rained all day long every day. And I can remember her being concerned about the weather, and mentioning that we’d probably not be able to meet. My reply to her each time was not to worry, and that if we were destined to meet on that day, it would happen and the weather would clear up for us. Of course she laughed at me and thought I was being silly. So I told her to just wait and see. And lo and behold, that Wednesday afternoon as the time for our meeting approached, it suddenly stopped raining. Now, just like her, you may initially think that I got lucky, but there’s more.
I went out an hour earlier to the waterfront in Paramaribo where we had decided to meet. I wanted to take some pictures nearby before she came. As 5 ‘o clock came near, I headed for the spot along the river where we’d meet and stood there waiting and taking random shots. Then all of a sudden I noticed some colors in the sky; at first I thought it was a rainbow, but it didn’t look quite like a rainbow. In fact it was the first time I ever saw something like this in the sky. Moreover, I could only see it with my sunglasses on because without them the sky was simply too bright to look at directly. I hurried to take a few shots of it before it disappeared, and you can see one of those shots above. Thanks to HDR imaging techniques I could balance the sky with the landscape making the colors visible. However, the picture doesn’t do it justice, as there was a little movement that I couldn’t capture on the photo; it seemed like the colors were flowing out of the light. And while these colors appeared in the sky amidst what seemed like parted clouds, I stood there wondering to myself if this was perhaps some kind of sign. Maybe this was the universe telling me I was about to meet someone really special, I thought to myself. Usually this is how the arrival of angels is announced; the clouds part and there’s lots of bright light and rainbows involved, at least according to what we can read in the bible.
Later investigation would reveal that the colors appeared in the sky at around 4:55pm according to the metadata in my RAW files, which is around the time she arrived at a location nearby where she parked her car, which was about 4-5 minutes walking distance away from where I was. At 5:03pm I turned around and saw her walking towards me with a cute and slightly shy smile on her face. Almost immediately after greeting her, I asked her to look at the sky to check if she could see what I was seeing. I even took off my sunglasses and asked her to look through those, instead of her own, just to make sure. Then I showed her one of the shots on my camera where I exposed for the sky, where the colors were also visible. I knew I was going to have a hard time convincing her, or anyone else really, of what I saw that day, so it was important to let her see it right there on the spot. Otherwise she could have thought I photoshopped the colors in afterwards. Just a few minutes after her arrival the colors faded away and we started walking along the waterfront. We had an unusual and interesting afternoon that I’m not easily going to forget.
I think it was the following day when I reviewed the photos that I took the day before, when I noticed something that really blew my mind. I don’t usually pay close attention to the clothes people wear and what’s written on them, so when I met her the day before I hadn’t noticed the text that was written on her shirt. I think I may also have been too distracted by her general appearance to pay attention to such details. But I had taken a few quick shots of her when she arrived and walked up to me. And while reviewing the photos I noticed that she wore a shirt by Guess with the text “Los Angeles” printed in front in large letters. Los Angeles of course means “The Angels”.
Could all of this be just coincidence? It seems too connected to be just coincidence. First there’s the fact that the weather cleared up right before we were supposed to meet while being very bad on the days before and even that morning. There was no way to tell that it would stop raining anytime soon. There’s also the fact that I had specifically told her that the weather would clear up for us if we were destined to meet, and it did. Then later on that day, that sign appeared in the sky precisely at the time she had arrived on location and was walking over to me, apparently signaling to me that I was about to meet an angel. It also faded away again in less than 3 minutes after she stood next to me. And as if all that wasn’t enough, just to make absolutely sure I got the message, there’s the fact that she just happened to wear a shirt with “Los Angeles” printed across the front in large letters. These combined facts alone are enough to show that there’s something out of the ordinary that happened that day. However, there are a few more related details — also strange coincidences — that add to this, but that I can’t mention without revealing some of her personal details.
To this day she apparently doesn’t know what to think of all this, even though she knows I’m not making this up because she experienced all of it with me. As for me, I do have a pretty good idea of what went on. And although I can’t reveal that here, I’ll just say that at the very least, she has a very sweet, honest, sensitive and gentle personality that’s certainly worthy of such an angelic first appearance.
