On “lie machines” and “digital crime”

Curtis Hofwijks laughs during the protestsI can still remember vividly when Curtis Hofwijks burst into laughter at the Dependence Square in Paramaribo, when I told him for the umpteenth time that my Facebook account was blocked again for a while. It was during the period of 2015–2016 when I supported him during his protests against the policies of the robberment, led at the time by Bouterse. Someone had managed to get my account blocked again by reporting one of my posts on Facebook. In that period during the protests, people tried to censor me that way. I was often present as a photographer at the protests, and through my photos, Curtis would get quite a bit of exposure on Facebook.

Now, it wasn’t difficult to get me blocked on Facebook, because I shared a lot of controversial information that could easily persuade any content moderation slave at Facebook to block me. During that period, I had to create at least 5 additional accounts under my real name, and all of them were blocked in short succession at different times for varying periods. The attack was intense. One of my accounts was even permanently deleted by Facebook. I also had some undercover accounts as backups, for moments when all accounts under my real name were blocked simultaneously. It was quite a predicament, so it’s understandable that Curtis eventually burst into laughter after yet another instance of me getting blocked.

It’s highly likely that the individuals targeting me during that period probably had ties to the political party of the then-chief-overseer Bouterse, namely the NDP. It’s unlikely that the opposition at the time, now accused by the same NDP of similar behavior, was involved, as they often protested side by side with us.

After reading an article on Starnieuws, in which the NDP claims that the former opposition (now coalition) is guilty of “digital crime,” I immediately wondered whether the NDP is not aware of similar practices within their own ranks. It seems that they used their own “lie machine” back then. Now that they find themselves on the receiving end of such immoral acts, they express their indignation. Hypocrisy at its finest.

In the past, they also complained about the current overseers in the robberment making it difficult for people to protest, for example, by closing off the Dependence Square and its surroundings, without acknowledging that they did exactly the same when Bouterse was the chief-overseer. The same goes for the arrests of people who criticized the current chief-overseer — they were also arrested during Bouterse’s time. These are just a few examples of their selective memory.

For clarity, I want to mention that I do not doubt the information in the NDP’s article, nor what Marcel Oostburg has said about the same during an interview on March 13th, 2024, with D-TV Express. In fact, I would be surprised if what they say isn’t true. Just before losing the elections of 2020, I had warned on Starnieuws on May 16th, 2020, that regardless of which political parties would win, the people of Suriname would once again turn out to be the big losers. It’s been clear for many generations now that no matter which overseers come to power in the robberment, we always end up with more of the same. They’re all guilty of exactly the same things that they accuse each other of. And this is not only the case on the plantation Suriname, but it happens worldwide. For example, according to recent revelations in the USA, the FBI and the White House have forced social media platforms to censor accounts.

The psychopaths in the robberments of the world are going to use every means they can get their hands on to oppress the slave population — especially digital means. I also warned about this with regard to Suriname in February 2020 on Starnieuws.

But do you think Suriname’s slave population has become wiser by now? Of course not. I bet they still consider themselves ‘smart’ even though their ‘smart’ behavior has resulted in 5 years of even worse exploitation than the years before. And next year we’re going to see them consenting to slavery again on May 25th, at which time they’re going to help other overseers into office by whom they’ll be abused again in exactly the same way for another 5 years. And the abuse and exploitation are inevitable. As they say, haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate, robberments gonna rob. Don’t expect anything else.
