Taxation is Slavery

Why I will never work for any government ever again

In the last couple of years I’ve learned a lot about the anti-social system that we currently live in, known as Statism. I’ve learned about its true purpose and I’ve learned a lot of details about its true workings as well. Like many others before me, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s an evil system, designed to enslave and corrupt everyone living in it. Knowing what I now know, it’s going to be extremely difficult for me to work in good conscience for any government that’s in charge in such a system.

When you read my post “Statism: A System for your Enslavement” I’m sure you’ll understand why I came to such a decision. But I want to discuss an analogy below that should make it extremely clear to you why I can’t work for any government anymore.

Consider the following scenario: Suppose there was a man who came to your house and robbed you. And suppose he came back to you after a month, and told you that he wanted to hire you for a project he’s working on. Would you decide to work for him knowing what he did to you? Now, suppose it wasn’t a one-time robbery; let’s say he came by at your house every month to forcefully take away (some of) your money and other possessions. Would you still want to work for him if he came to you asking for your help?

I think anyone who would want to help, or work for, somebody who was systematically robbing them would have to be quite insane. Either that, or they would need to have absolutely no knowledge of being systematically robbed on an ongoing basis by the person who wanted to hire them.

And yet, this is exactly the situation everyone in society finds themselves in with government! While the government wants to hire me to help them with various projects, I am systematically being robbed by them in various ways, one of which is through income taxation — the forceful confiscation of my wealth, which essentially makes me their slave. My right to life is constantly under attack by government in what can only be described as terrorism (defined as “the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims” according to Google).

Definition of Terrorism

Yes, make no mistake about it, governments all over the world are in fact criminal organizations, and everyone working for governments are criminals, whether they realize it or not. Like Albert J. Nock wrote in his book “Our Enemy, The State”:

The State […] is an anti-social institution, administered in the only way an anti-social institution can be administered, and by the kind of person who, in the nature of things, is best adapted to such service [a psychopath]. Taking the State wherever found, striking into its history at any point, one sees no way to differentiate the activities of its founders, administrators and beneficiaries from those of a professional-criminal class. As Dr. Sigmund Freud has observed, it can not even be said that the State has ever shown any disposition to suppress crime, but only to safeguard its own monopoly of crime. Albert J. Nock

So anyone who decides to work for (or serve) government, is complicit in the crimes that are being perpetrated on a daily basis against lots of innocent people in society. Not only that, but they are actually helping an organization that is systematically robbing and enslaving them and their families, and most of them don’t even realize this. Yes, society is really that fucked up right now.

If, then, taxation is compulsory, and is therefore indistinguishable from theft, it follows that the State, which subsists on taxation, is a vast criminal organization far more formidable and successful than any “private” Mafia in history. Murray Rothbard (The Ethics of Liberty)

Knowing what I now know, much like Leo Tolstoy, I will never serve any government ever again. 1

The truth is that the State is a conspiracy designed not only to exploit, but above all to corrupt its citizens… Henceforth, I shall never serve any government anywhere. Leo Tolstoy

I do realize that it’s impossible to completely stop contributing to all the crimes that are being committed by the government against people in society. Many years ago I had already come to the realization that, if you want to be a part of this system (or if you simply want to stay alive in this system), you will be forced in one way or another, either directly and most often indirectly, to contribute to all the evil that exists within the system:

If you view the world we live in as a system, there are certain rules according to which things seem to behave in that system. These rules seem to have been in place for centuries. It seems to be by design. So if you as a person would like to be a part of that system, that means that you are going to have to be, or become, compatible with that system in order to be able to function normally in it. This means that you will have to behave according to the rules in that system. If the system is evil, you’re going to have to be evil more or less, directly or indirectly, knowingly or unknowingly. If you don’t behave according to those rules or don’t accept them, sooner or later you will not be able to function well in that system, doors will close around you and you soon find yourself isolated. The very fact that you want to be a part of the system, means that you will sooner or later find yourself in conflicting and hypocritical situations if that is the nature of the system. The very fact that you want to be a part of the system, means that you will sooner or later, and possibly during most of your life, be supporting or helping bad things taking place inside that system, however indirectly it may be. You will be a part of it, and it won’t be easy to avoid it. In fact, if you want to be part of the system, then by definition it is impossible to avoid this.

I don’t want to be a part of this system, but just like Uruguayan president Jose Mujica once said, I am a prisoner of this system. And right now this is a global system; so you can run, but you can’t hide. Sooner or later the system will find you, wherever you may be on Earth, and it will fuck you up. So far I think it’s wiser to stay where you are and fight to rid the world of this system for future generations. It appears to me that if you want to truly not be a part of this system, then either you would have to go off of this planet, or you would have to die. And none of those are options for me right now.

But it’s still possible for all of us to try to minimize contributing to the evil in this system as much as possible. And one of the ways in which we can do this, is to stop directly contributing to it whenever possible. Instead of giving our energy to this evil system, it’s better to give it to the good that already exists or can be created on this planet.

Not working for government is one way of avoiding direct contribution to the crimes it is committing against people every day. I want absolutely no part in that. And unlike others, I’m not so stupid anymore to work for a criminal organization that seeks to systematically rob and enslave me.

Footnotes

  1. I have already taken necessary measures a number of weeks ago to let people know that I’m not accepting any projects from governments anymore. There’s one last project that I may need to do because I promised I would do it some time ago. Should I have to do that project, I will also write about it here on my blog once it’s done. ↩︎
