Augustin Souchy on Centralism
The organizing principle of centralism was necessary only for the individual ruler who, from one place, wanted to dominate larger countries at the same time in order to squeeze interest from them. To this end, they were compelled to appoint ministers to their courts, and to send statesmen to the provinces.
Now one must always keep in mind that this was not necessary for the life of the subjugated peoples, but that this central government was created only by the ruler who conquered power for the purpose of collecting taxes and later influencing peoples opinion in favor of the ruler. Augustin Souchy
