Does AMD seriously expect to sell the FX-62?
AMD has announced the latest pricecuts for its intire line of processors. It’s looking really good except for the FX-62 CPU. That one is still priced at $827. Does AMD honestly expect to sell that CPU for that price, when the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU costing only $550 outperforms it on almost every benchmark, while using less energy and producing less heat? You have to be really ignorant to still buy a FX-62 CPU at that price when you know the latest Intel chips are way better.
However, like I said before, the prices for the Athlon 64 X2 chips are looking really good. AMD is still able to keep its price-performance lead. You have to wonder however, at what cost? Are they doing it at a loss? In any case, the next 2 years aren’t going to be easy on AMD. Intel has some great stuff planned, and AMD is going to have a hard time playing catch-up.
