A few days ago I had another photoshoot with a beginner model named Roanne, who I met on the Body&Soul Models website. She was a bit shy and nervous this first time working with me, but I could tell that she has a lot of potential. Below are two pictures featuring Roanne: And here are some more from my previous photoshoot: Backgrounds were all added in post production. Read more ⟶
My First Wedding
I’ve recently had the opportunity to photograph my first wedding, and I have to say right from the start that it was a very nice experience. I’ve covered various events before in the past, so I have experience with event photography, but I have been wanting to do a wedding for a while now. Being the official photographer on a wedding brings a lot of responsibility along with it. Read more ⟶
My Latest Model Photoshoot
As part of my goal to do some more model photography this year, I invited a friend over for a test photoshoot. I recently moved to a new location where I have an office and some more room to do my photography. I guess you could call it a small studio where I can just unpack my equipment and leave it all unpacked, ready for shooting whenever I feel like it. So I invited my friend over for a test photoshoot. Results of one of my latest photowalks
I went out on a photowalk again recently with my friend Jimmy, this time specifically to capture some High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. Having experimented with it in the past in front of our houses, we thought it was time to go out and capture some more interesting images. Most of the HDR images below were stiched together using at least 2 and up to 7 HDR images to create the final image you’re looking at. Read more ⟶
My work in the latest United
The January/June 2009 edition of United Business & Lifestyle magazine is out in Suriname and the Netherlands, and for the second time my photography work is featured on the cover. I wrote about the previous time here. The picture that was used this time is one from a shoot I did all the way back in August 2007 for Tropical Gem Tours. I had written about that shoot here. Pictures from the J. A. Wijdenbosch Bridge
Last Sunday I went out photowalking with a friend of mine and at the end of the day, we stopped at the J.A. Wijdenbosch bridge (over the Suriname river in Suriname) to take some pictures of the sunset there. The view of the bridge and the view from the bridge can be really beautiful and dramatic at sunset. Standing at the top of the bridge during sunset is a very nice experience. Read more ⟶
Photography Update
It was about time I did another photography update on my blog. About a week ago I had the opportunity to do another shoot with a model. Nothing too fancy, just a simple shoot for her portfolio. Read more ⟶
Photo Assignment: Torarica Buildings
I recently completed an assignment for one of the directors of Torarica Group of Hotels. He wanted a picture of the building of each of the 3 hotels that they manage to put on one of the walls in his office. The only requirement he had was that the pictures had to be in black and white and I had to deliver them printed and framed at 50cmx70cm. Read more ⟶
A Photowalk
After a rather long while I was able to take some of my free time again last Sunday and spend it on an afternoon of photography. Together with Jimmy, a friend who I got to know not too long ago, I went out and strolled through Paramaribo armed with some of my Canon gear, namely two 40D bodies and the 16-35mm f2.8L II and 70-200mm f2.8 L IS lenses. Jimmy owns a Nikon D200 body, which looked very nice. Read more ⟶
United Business Magazine Photoshoot
Back in October I did some photography for the next edition of United Business and Lifestyle Magazine. The launch of the 9th edition was last night, and it should be available next week in stores in Suriname and the Netherlands. Edward Lee, who is the editor and art director for the magazine asked me to do a photoshoot for the front cover. Read more ⟶
New Website
My new website has just been launched at www.kareldonk.com. Feel free to take a look. It contains the latest information about the services I have to offer as well as updated portfolios. I’ve been working on the site in my spare time for about 2 months now, and it was about time I could finally have my own work-related website to direct potential customers to. Read more ⟶
Another Photoshoot
Last Sunday I had the great opportunity again to do a photoshoot for one of my clients involving a nice model. The last time I did a photoshoot involving models was a while ago, and you can read about that here. This latest shoot was a nice experience overall, learned a lot again. The only problem I had was waking up at 3am in the morning to get prepared and leave at 4:30am to get to the location where the photoshoot would take place. Read more ⟶
Miss India Suriname Photoshoot
Back in February I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot for one of my clients involving the winner and first runner-up of the Miss India Suriname Pageant which was held in October 2006. It was another all day long shoot, but was surprisingly less exhausting than the previous one I did. Read more ⟶
I’m still taking pictures, just so you know
It’s been a while since my last post on my photography adventures and I thought it was time for another update. I’ve postponed this for a few weeks now and today I finally said to myself “If you don’t put up this post today, you’re not allowed to view the rest of the Matrix Trilogy DVDs you still need to see.” And as you can see, that worked. It’s just really overwhelming sometimes. Read more ⟶
Photography Session Update
If you’ve browsed around the Art section of my website, you probably already know I’m also into photography. Mostly just as an amateur and for my own projects. I’m really more interested in software engineering, and that’s what I do most of the time, but there are many other things I also do. Sometimes it’s so difficult to explain to people what I do for a living. Read more ⟶
