If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you already know what I think of Windows Vista. And it’s not just me, but many others are dealing with issues with Windows Vista every day. If it’s not the defects in the software, then Microsoft just decides one day that a couple of thousand users are using illegal copies of Vista and puts their computer in reduced functionality mode – something that they can only attribute to their stupidity and are now trying to fix in the first service pack for Vista.
The last few weeks I’ve been dealing with another issue that seems to be widespread as well. As if Vista isn’t already very slow compared to Windows XP, for some reason, certain processes in Vista just like using lots of CPU time making it look like you’re running Vista on a Pentium CPU with 64MB of RAM. These processes, depending on the time of day, atmospheric pressure and possibly positions of planets in our galaxy, can be any one of “TrustedInstaller.exe”, “msnmsgr.exe”, “iexplore.exe”, “explorer.exe”, “msmpeng.exe”, “slsvc.exe” and “searchindexer.exe.” Sometimes, when I am not very lucky, I can even see two of the processes fighting eachother for available CPU time while my entire machine slows down. I’ve become used to running Vista with task manager open all the time to keep an eye on what’s going on when I suddenly can’t open a goddamn window without waiting 2 minutes. You think it’s just me? Just do a search on Google, and look at how many people are suffering! And these are just the people who write about it! When grandma can’t open a new email window at home in a reasonable amount of time, she’s not likely to know what’s going on, let alone post about it on the Internet.
I can get so furious about this. At this point I’m just waiting for Microsoft to release Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista next week, and hope for their sake that it will fix this issue among so many other issues. The entire industry is disappointed with Windows Vista, and they have good reason to be disappointed. Windows Vista is a lemon, it’s worse than Windows Me at this point. And all of this was to be expected. It should never have gotten released so quickly as so many, including me, have argued in the past. I can’t even begin to think of recommending Vista to anyone. Everything is just slower in Vista. If I didn’t have to reinstall loads of software, I’d have gone back to Windows XP in a split-second. If the service pack fails to address these issues, I am going back to Windows XP the next day.
I can’t imagine the support nightmare of running this OS in an enterprise environment. May god have mercy with the IT staff of companies that decide to switch to Vista.
Windows Vista is absolute trash!! Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves!! They have managed to create something that is such a piece of shit and load it onto new computers!!! My computer crashed and I had no choice, but to get a new one with vista on it. I am furious that my programs aren’t even compatible with this fucking bullshit vista!!!! Windows vista is garbage and so are the assholes that created it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made the mistace of buying a PC with Vista for making music. XP worked nice for me and never crashed, so I checked that the programs I was buying was Vista-compatible and bought a PC for about 750 pounds. All three programs could not be installed proper even with fresh drivers downloaded from the produsers site. After two weeks of hassel and frustrasion I placed the f…..
machine in the cellar and went and bought an IMac. Halleluja!!!!
I am surprised that Microsoft would release this shit when Apple is on a strong offensive.
I am never, never, ever buying a PC again.
T
Vist is PURE garbage and easily the WORST product ever from Micro$oft. I am so glad I left them a few years back, I also manager a 200 seat network, the new computers that we buy are totally incompatible with older network apps that are working perfectly. I’ll never touch another Microsloth product agian.
It took almost six hours on the phone with the Microsoft technician to get Vista SP1installed on my PC. One day sometime after that I powered up the PC, everthing had been running OK for a while, THEN….the final straw: Vista wiped out ALL my favorites and ALL my desktop icons.
I then spent another very worthwhile three hours on the phone with the Dell technician wiping off Vista and installing XP.
Death to Vista!
windows vista is terrible
and karel donk your an idiot it doesnt take that much time downloading xp again
after you have installed vista
There is only one real answer to all of the windows problems that many are experiencing and that is a Linux OS. Linux offers many of the same features that windows offers without the “slow” speeds that vista has. Also when running Linux you do not have to deal with the whole virus and spyware issue. Yes, it is harder to learn to operate but with new updates it is becoming more and more user friendly. O and did i mention instead of spending the $300+ you would for vista ultimate you pay nothing at all you can get a free copy just downloading from a website where it can be burned right to a disc. Im not bashing windows because it for a starter OS it is the most user-friendly but it does have many flaws that Linux does not.
It has taken me 3 years. Being patient with the sluggish Vista.
The day before yesterday, after endless waiting on the boot process to finish, I couldn’t take it anymore. Frustrated, I banged my fist on my Toshiba laptop. The result: the laptop is in the garbage bin.
Shame on Microsoft!
Windows Vista is a shame. A chip manipulation to make MS stock to go up. It makes you wonder why is not being properly investigated and scritunized to see if there is something fishy going on. After all, there is well known people that spent a season behind bars for things like this.
I’ve been always a faithful customer of MS products and I felt like a big sucker for buying a machine with Vista. I couldn’t even downgrade normally to XP. Finally I had to completely erase de HD, then get a software which would write zeros on the HD, and finally I could install a LEGITIMATE and LICENCED copy of XP. Of course, I had to go through the hassle of getting all the drivers and I simply will not get any support, buy I feel that I win in the trade. I have a great machine which now runs at a great speed under my old and loved XP. I heard that XP is the fiercest competition of Vista. I believe it.
