Stain problem not only on MacBooks
Apple responded recently to claims about the MacBook getting discolored after a few weeks of use. You can see a picture of what that looks like here. This seems to be a problem with the type of paint that is used on devices these days. I’ve had this problem with both Alienware laptops I owned. The latest laptop I have is an Alienware Area-51 7700, and I noticed that it gets stained where I often hold it or rest my hands. The color becomes much darker in those areas.
The problem is not as bad with the current laptop, but the previous Alienware laptop I had was just badly discoloured everywhere I used to hold it, so much that it was just not very nice to look at anymore similar to that MacBook in the picture I mentioned earlier. I have to also admit that I have sweaty hands, and so my hands are always a bit moist, and this just makes the problem worse. It’s important however to note that the problem would exist even if I didn’t have sweaty hands. The paint can also be scratched off pretty easily on edges when it gets rubbed to things often. I own one of those Alienware notebook backpacks, and the friction in the backpack is causing the paint on the edges to come off. Here are some pictures of my current laptop with the stains.

Notice the dark spots on top. Those are actually caused by the padding inside the Alienware backpack.

Darkening near the edge where I rest my hand sometimes. Scratches are caused by the lid.

Notice how the paint is almost black below the DVD drive. You can tell I touch there often to eject the DVD drive. Notice how some paint also came off on the right below the drive showing the white material.

Paint was rubbed off by the backpack on the edge.
I also own a Motorola Razr V3 phone with black finish, and that also stains easily, although the stains can be wiped off eventually (at least it worked for me so far). But with this phone you have the same problem of the black finish being able to be scratched off easily. I know someone who owns the same phone with a silver finish, and it’s so badly scratched right now it just looks terrible.
It’s time that manufacturers start doing something about this and start looking at the quality of the paint they’re using.
