How Netscape lost its way
I came across an article on Fortune about how Netscape lost against Microsoft. The article has quotes from various people, and some are very interesting. I particularly like the one below:
Peter Currie (Netscape’s ex-chief financial officer): Every large shareholder would call and say, “We just had Microsoft in here and they said you’re dead. Now explain to us how you’re going to deal with X and Y and Z.”
The information in the article once again shows how Microsoft fairly won the fight against Netscape. The mistakes Netscape made were that it focused too much on Microsoft, instead of focusing on releasing a quality product, focusing on customers, focusing on innovation and unique features and on new market opportunities. In short, they did the exact opposite of what Google is doing today.
