For Windows 7 they won't be starting from scratch. Looks like it will just be an upgrade of Vista. It does look like they will take care of the bloat. It rremains to be seen if Windows 7 will be an improvement compared to Vista.

If you look up their plans for Windows 7, it looks like the last comments about "starting from scratch" hit right on the head.

Yes I am using MS Office and know they will be including OGA in it soon. That's when they will notice a massive decline in office users especially at the exhorbitant prices they charge.

Too bad. I am sorry that you are forced to use such a bad system. Vista is still bad with all sorts of compatibility and performance problems even with the removal of the Reduced Functionality Mode in SP1.

Are you using Microsoft Office as well? Microsoft will start piloting the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) Notifications (read : nagging) program soon which will check whether you have a pirated version of Office on your computer. I am pretty sure it will make mistakes like the Software Craptection Platform in Vista and lock out legitimate users of Office. I still have a copy of Office 2000 but I seldom used it (abandoned, actually). Now I mainly use OpenOffice and occasionally WordPerfect. I have not bought Office 2003 and I will never buy Office 2007 now or in the future, now with this OGA crap.

Yes I am still using Vista and it is indeed because of work requirements. As a developer, I have to make sure my applications run on it since some clients will be running Vista. They have no choice either since new PCs come with Vista only.

Karel,

Are you still using Vista? Why not just switch back to XP or get a Mac? Is it because of work requirement?

I have 2 Macs and a PC running XP, Server 2003 and Ubuntu. I have no intention of using Vista even if Microsoft gives me free copies. XP and 2003 probably will be the last Windows I use, if Microsoft does not change its policies in the future.
